We live in a large condominium in So. Ca. and the laid back atmoshpere of the daytime can soon become a beehive of activity at night. I like to sleep with our windows open to enjoy our cool ocean breezes at night. Needless to say, along with the cool breezes come the cool pool parties and patio galas.
My husband bought me this Sound Soother to help block out the late evening noises on the weekends. We love it and now sleep with it on every night. Have worked through most of the sounds, they are very authentic and natural. One thing I would
have liked to have had would be a lit control area on the top of the unit. Turning the volume up and down, changing the sound pattern, or even just setting the alarm requires turning on a light in the room to do. Also having a time projection on the wall or ceiling would be terrific. Every bedroom across America should have this machine... babies too!

Did I receive an updated version since the previous comments..hmm. I must have. First of all, I love this product and here's why: (I'm listening to Rainforest as I write this, and I'm in heaven)
There is a volume range you can adjust for the sound from from 1 - 8 range. I only needed to set mine at 2 for an audible, yet gentle and clear sound in my bedroom. This machine can be used in a small room to a large, spacious room with the range capability.
You can adjust the backlight brightness on the display to 3 settings: Hi, Med, or Lo
There is also a Daylight Savings Time button on the back that can be activated.
The 20 different sounds to choose from are generous compared to other nature sound products. The sounds are clear with combined layers of soft background to up front stronger sounds - very accurate and realistic
You can set a timer for sound if you choose and the sound will automatically stop at the end of the time.
Two separate alarm settings (Can choose a sound or a beep alarm)
The price is very, very affordable!
Product is lightweight and sturdy, compact to fit gracefully on a small bedstand, sleek and well balanced.
To Parents with newborns: There is a heartbeat sound!
What more can I say... Sharper Image produces another quality product. I previously had an expensive wooden chime alarm clock, and when the chime began to sound like a low clunk after two years, it became almost worthless, except for the digital clock image, so live and learn! I'm jubliant and satisfied that I found an even better product with so many features and sound options...

I researched a few different sound machines and for the price and look, this one cannot be beat. The complaints about the buttons making a clicking sound when pressed and the screen being too bright (even on low) are accurate. I think if they fixed those two issues this would be a perfect product. Overall though, I still an very happy with this product and its price. I'm starting to buy them as B-Day gifts for friends/family.

This fantastic little machine provides 20 different relaxing sounds that help you fall asleep quickly. i really enjoy my new clock - the sound options are great and some are soothing enough to listen to all night to help me sleep and drown out the sounds of the city.
