This set will show everyone at the track who you are rooting for right away. The scanner itself is pretty cool, the front shell slides down to reveal the numbers to punch in for frequencies. It is not preprogrammed. You can store frequencies (I did mine by driver number), but if you change the batteries, they have to be redone (minus one star). I have a hard time keeping the earbuds in my ear, they fall out everytime I try to put the headphones on over top (minus the second star).

2 out of 5 stars How Did This Ever Get Approved???   April 4, 2006

Normally I review STRICTLY books...but this product annoyed me so much, I had to review it. I took this scanner to the Martinsville race this past weekend and was VERY disappointed. I was under the impression the headset was attached to the scanner, but instead you get a cheap pair of headphones that are inserted into your ears, and the earmuffs go over them to muffle the noise.

Well, throughout the race the earpieces kept falling out of my ears, and I spent pretty much all of the race trying to adjust them so I could hear. And the signal was very poor. While I picked up the local radio stations with clarity, the race stations were muffled and kept cutting out. Luckily I have an extra race headset, and am hoping that it'll work with the scanner.

Also, whenever you change the batteries, you need to re-program all the drivers back into the scanner. This REALLY made me mad seeing as how I had to change batteries in the middle of the race, then sit there and re-program in 30-something drivers while also trying to pay attention to the race that I paid to see.

Overall, I can't believe Nascar approved these scanners. They are poorly constructed, and are pretty much glorified walkmans. If I wanted a walkman, I wouldn't have paid $149 for one. Hopefully I can use it with a real headset, but we'll see. The only thing this scanner has going for it is that it looks good, but in the end, I'm just really unhappy with this product.

2 out of 5 stars good looks, little performance   March 30, 2006

I love the look of the Dale Jr. scanner and headset. I hate the scanner itself. I took the scanner to the Bristol Race last weekend. I could not pick up the local race frequency. I could only tune in to a few drivers. Most of all, general reception was horrible. This item should have never been sponsored by NASCAR or their drivers. You can get a great scanner, with great reception at radioshack for $99.99. NASCAR should have just sold the headsets, without the scanner.

I purchased these for my husband and he was very disappointed. The ear pieces kept falling out of his ears. I would not recommend this product.

I had this scanner at the track this past weekend and was very disappointed!! You couldn't make out what was said by the driver/crew and I had the volume all the way up. The radio station the race was on didn't even come in clear. May be a problem with the antenna?
